Little Tikes Commercial’s line of inclusive playground equipment stems from our commitment to providing play systems that children of all abilities can enjoy.  We believe everyone deserves the highest level of fun, and we take this challenge very seriously.  Consulting with both child development and inclusive playground experts, we incorporated focus on the complexities and developmental benefits of play to include the specific features children need at each stage of growth. 

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) provides equal access features in publicly-used facilities, including commercial playground equipment. In March of 2012, the ADA revised its guidelines for accessible play areas, which included new regulations for both play activities and surfacing.  You can rest assured that Little Tikes Commercial meets and exceeds these compliance regulations, delivering to you safe, engaging, and fun equipment for all children.

Our extensive line of inclusive products consists of:

Rock’n Ship Glider:  Gentle swaying motion, wheelchair accessible glider meets all safety standards. With 70 sq. ft. of deck surface, there is ample room for wheelchairs.

Accessible Wheelchair Ramp:  The widest ramp in the industry fully meets ADA Standards at 60” wide.  Includes unique animal footprint matching game.

Curved Bridges:  “S” Bridges and 90 Degree Bridges include unique animal footprints and shapes.

Colored Kick Plates with Fun Faces:  Our kick plates are offered with color breaks for visually impaired children.

Deck Edge Markers:  Our deck edge markers provide a color break at deck edges for children who are visually impaired.

Wide Accessible Platforms and Ramps:  The Accessible Ramp eliminates another boundary by allowing ample space for both wheelchairs and playmates.

Transfer Stations:  Provide access to play equipment for children with mobility impairments who are not limited to wheelchairs. 

Sign Language Panel:  Provides learning through play experience for children of all abilities.

Picture Communication Symbols (PCS):  In partnership with Mayer-Johnson, Inc., we have developed a set of 16 PCS symbols specifically for use on the playground.  Our PCS Panel provides a method of communication for children who are either hearing or speech impaired.  Customize a PCS panel by choosing six of the available 22 symbols.

Melody Maker Reach Panel:  This chair-level panel has a built in 1 octave keyboard, allowing kids to create their own music.

Telescope Reach Panel:  This chair-level telescope panel is available for both KidBuilders® and PlayBuilders® systems.

Seven-Station Play Factory:  This inclusive event is multi-sensory and encourages cooperative play between ground and elevated levels.

Inclusive Swings:  Deep and wide ergonomic seat accommodates individuals of all abilities.  Restraint locks in place for easy entry and exit, and the raising locking mechanism prevents pinching and scraping.

Enriching Physical Benefits: Promotes balance, strength, coordination and vestibular stimulation to support the development of both fine and gross motor skills. 

Enriching Cognitive Benefits: Provides an understanding of cause and effect, develops social concepts such as taking turns and stimulates thought process development.

Enriching Learning Benefits: Promotes learning experiences that may include repetition such as cause and effect, may provide a quiet place where children can go when over stimulated.

Enriching Visual Benefits: Provides color breaks and high contrast colors for getting around the playground. May include various textured surfaces or stimulate alternate senses, particularly hearing.

Enriching Hearing Benefits: Provides stimulation to alternate senses, particularly visual including vibrant or contrasting colors and the use of symbols.

Mayer-Johnson, Inc. is a pioneer of Picture Communication Symbols (PCS) used by individuals with communication disabilities.  Little Tikes Commercial and Mayer-Johnson have developed a set of 16 PCS specifically for use on the playground.

 

Injury Free Coalition for Kids

The Injury Free Coalition is a hospital-based community-oriented network of pediatric trauma centers working to prevent injuries to children by supporting injury prevention education and safe community development.
